May Open Exhibit
Diverse artworks by member artists are the feature of Open Exhibits at The Art League. Seventy-nine pieces—painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, and more—are on view at this month’s show. It was juried by multimedia artist Corin Hewitt. The May Open Exhibit is on view through June 4.
Summer Garden by Keith Parks

Photographer Keith Parks’ fascination with the lush plant life growing around his Virginia home is is the inspiration for his solo exhibit Summer Garden: A Californian’s view of a Virginia Garden. His series of stunning photographs, taken in situ then arranged digitally, reveal the brilliance of the flora and foliage he so admires. It is on view through June 4.
Old Town Alexandria Arts & Crafts Festival
Volunteer Alexandria presents the Old Town Arts & Crafts Fair on June 3, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Waterfront Park (next to the Torpedo Factory). The fair features local and regional artists and crafters who showcase their pieces across various mediums, including pottery, stationery, fabrics, paintings, jewelry, photography and more.
Magical Illuminations by Rosemarie Forsythe
Internationally recognized artist Rosemarie Forsythe’s distinctive paintings portray the magic of nature, science, and learning. In Magical Illuminations, her solo exhibition at Reston Art Gallery and Studio, stars illuminate deep blue night skies and dense jewel-toned forests; colorful birds and animals wander through her imaginative compositions; and poetry, symbols, equations of math and science, algorithms, ornaments, or intellectual puzzles are embedded in the paintings. Magical Illuminations is on view through June 25. Forsythe will be in the gallery on June 4 for an opening reception, and 18 and 24 from 2 – 4 p.m.
Portico Pride
Portico Gallery in Brentwood, Maryland’s Gateway Arts District kicks off Pride Month with a group exhibition featuring artists Adam David Bencomo, Marifel Bermudez, Nan Golub, Tom Hill, Elisabeth Jacobsen, AnaMarie King, and Tom Wolff. It is on view through July 22, with an opening Artist Reception June 3 from 6 – 8 pm; Studio 3807 Apartments, 3807 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD.
