Ink and Watercolor Wash Supplies
(This is just what I use and is not a REQUIREMENT for the class)
DRAWING
Sketch pad, medium sized such as 11” x 14”
Drawing pencils
Soft eraser like a kneaded eraser
INK PEN
Sharpie Black ink pen, ultrafine point or any other WATERPROOF ink pen
TUBE COLORS: (Winsor & Newton, DaVinci, Daler Rowney are all good – buy Artist Quality not Student Quality)
Indanthrone Blue
Ultramarine Blue
Winsor Blue
Prussian Blue
Cerulean Blue
Cobalt Blue
Cobalt Teal
Payne’s Gray (strongly suggest Winsor Newton; all others are too dull)
New Gamboge and/or Quinachrodone Gold
Raw Sienna
Alizarin Crimson
Permanent Rose
Cadmium-Free Red (Light), Lemon, and Orange
Burnt Sienna
VanDyke Brown (or Burnt Umber)
Raw Umber
BRUSHES:
Any “large” brush that holds lots of water but has a very fine point.
For example: Silver Black Velvet round, (my current favorite) Robert
Simmons “Goliath” (#24 or larger) or the “Faux Squirrel” #1827 by Dynasty
(#18 or 20)
1 ½- or 2-inch flat for washes
#1 Rigger for line work
PALETTE – John Pike or similar style palette with big center mixing area and cover to keep paint fresh
PAPER –Top quality 100% cotton rag paper like Arches (140 pound cold-pressed or rough), either full sheets (22” X 30”) torn into ½ or ¼ sheets, or a 12” X 16” Block (about equivalent to a quarter-sheet) with glued edges (more
expensive than sheets).
EXTRAS:
Viva paper towels or some brand that is equally soft and free from embossing
Photo references for subject matter
Water container
Box or Bag to carry all this stuff
