This semester will break down the principle elements of figure drawing by studying the masters from Classical to Abstraction. Students explore the figure and pictorial space using traditional and mixed-media materials through classical realism and abstraction in figure drawing. Focus on capturing lively, expressive figurative drawings while understanding essential anatomy for the artist. In this class, you are encouraged to push your boundaries and limits. Each week, while working from a live model, emphasis is placed on careful observation of gesture and anatomical structure, line quality, and composition using traditional and contemporary materials. Be Inspired by discussions of historical and modern works of art, instructor demonstrations, and simple methods for understanding skeletal and muscular anatomy while creating a dynamic finished drawing.

Supplies are required for this course. As a service to our students, most supply lists are kept on hand in the Art League Supply Store. The existence of this store gives students the opportunity to obtain supplies in advance and come to class prepared to work. The Art League Supply Store is in studio 217 at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, just around the corner from the Art League School Registration Office.

They are open 7 days a week for your convenience. Due to our large enrollment, we are unable to mail, fax, or read supply lists over the phone. It is the responsibility of the student to acquire their own materials.
